Instructional Strategies, Response to Intervention, & Best Practices

At the heart of improvement is what happens in the classroom between the teacher and the student. With the emphasis on reaching all learners in core academic areas, teachers need to change their approach to instruction. The challenge is how to differentiate instruction when there is such a wide variety of learner needs. This level of change requires a deep understanding of best practices in literacy (e.g. 6 Traits Writing), numeracy, classroom management, use of block scheduling, flex grouping, etc. Schools need to be able to plan and implement Response to Intervention (RtI) strategies, as well as strategies for reaching "gifted" learners.
