S.M.A.R.T. Measurement System (S.M.S.)

The S.M.A.R.T. Measurement System™ (S.M.S.™) is an evidence-based model that we developed to help you monitor the implementation and results of any systemic initiative. S.M.S. can be used to measure any programmatic improvement or reform initiative you’ve undertaken, including but not limited to S.M.A.R.T. School Improvement.

Built on the criteria of S.M.A.R.T., S.M.S. incorporates three critical components and their associated forms of measurement:

  • student performance results
  • strategic focus on a common goal or process
  • cultural changes needed to sustain improvement

Strategic focus is measured using our Indicators of Progress (IoP™) rubric. Cultural change is measured via our online Survey; the survey questions are organized using our model of Reflection, Focus and Collaboration. Synergies result when you measure student performance, strategic focus and cultural change. The result is powerful and actionable information that we use to provide guidance to district and school leadership teams.
