Youth Leadership

Building leadership capacity in schools also means creating student opportunities for authentic participation in leadership, as well as deepening students' leadership knowledge, skills and capabilities. Valuing student voice is a critical first step. How can we create readiness in adults for hearing students' voices? How can schools build in opportunities for student leadership beyond the traditional modes of student council memberships, social committees, tutoring/mentoring, etc.? How can we build community-school partnerships that build leadership capacity in our young people, and are also mutually rewarding, interdependent, and sustainable for the partners?
